Discover Mr. Ed's Oyster Bar & Fish House, French Quarter (Bienville)

When you're exploring the vibrant streets of New Orleans, there’s one spot that stands out in the bustling French Quarter-Mr. Ed's Oyster Bar & Fish House on Bienville Street. Located at 512 Bienville St, New Orleans, LA 70130, this cozy diner is a must-visit for anyone craving a taste of the Gulf Coast’s finest seafood and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this place delivers an unforgettable dining experience with fresh dishes and classic New Orleans charm.

The atmosphere at Mr. Ed's Oyster Bar & Fish House is laid-back and inviting, reflecting the spirit of the French Quarter. With its traditional decor and the sweet sounds of jazz in the background, it feels like the perfect spot to enjoy a meal after a day of exploring the city. The open kitchen gives diners a peek into the magic that happens behind the scenes, where chefs prepare fresh seafood dishes using local ingredients. You can truly see and taste the love that goes into every plate.

Let’s talk about the menu. If you’re an oyster lover, you’re in for a treat. Mr. Ed’s serves some of the freshest oysters in the area, whether you like them raw, grilled, or baked. Their oyster Rockefeller is a standout-rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. Of course, no seafood spot in New Orleans would be complete without a signature gumbo, and Mr. Ed's does not disappoint. Their gumbo is a perfect blend of spices, with a hearty helping of shrimp, sausage, and a dark roux that brings everything together. For something a little different, try their shrimp po' boy, a sandwich that's crispy, flavorful, and has just the right amount of kick.

One of the highlights of dining here is the sheer variety of dishes on offer. While seafood is the star of the show, there are plenty of options for those who prefer other types of cuisine. The fried chicken, for example, is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside-a true comfort food delight. Vegetarians can also find plenty of flavorful options like their roasted vegetable platter or the Caesar salad, which is simple yet satisfying.

What sets Mr. Ed's Oyster Bar & Fish House apart is not just the food, but the level of service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, always ready to recommend a dish or explain how something is prepared. It’s clear they take pride in their work, and that’s one of the reasons the place has such a loyal following. If you’re visiting for the first time, the staff’s enthusiasm makes the experience even better, as they make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.

The location is another big draw. Situated right in the heart of the French Quarter, it’s easy to slip into the restaurant after a day of sightseeing or shopping. Whether you’re on your way to Jackson Square or after a visit to the iconic St. Louis Cathedral, Mr. Ed’s is a perfect pit stop for a delicious meal that won’t break the bank. Plus, the casual vibe makes it an ideal spot for families, groups of friends, or even a solo diner looking for a great meal in a relaxed environment.

Reviews from diners consistently highlight the quality of the seafood, the friendly service, and the great value. Many have praised the portion sizes, which are generous without feeling overwhelming. As one reviewer notes, "Every dish feels like a true reflection of New Orleans’ culinary heritage," and it’s easy to see why this restaurant is a beloved part of the French Quarter’s dining scene.

If you find yourself in New Orleans, you don’t want to miss a visit to Mr. Ed's Oyster Bar & Fish House. Whether you're stopping by for a casual lunch, a special dinner, or just a quick snack of oysters and a cold drink, it’s a place where you’ll always be welcomed with a smile and leave with a satisfied belly. It’s the kind of local gem that makes New Orleans such a wonderful destination for food lovers.

  • It wasn't a busy Monday but I knew I wanted the Oysters from walking by earlier that day. Taste was divine! Check out the video. Cool staff as well.

  • Mr. Ed’s Seafood on Bienville was hands-down the best food we had in New Orleans. So good that we went back twice for dinner during our trip — and that says everything. The staff truly makes this place special. From the moment you walk in, you’re treated like family. Sitting at the bar is a must — it’s the best seat in the house to meet the incredible team. Lonnie, Michael, and Brittany were all warm, attentive, and genuinely fun, and there was a beautiful waitress who looked just like Sandra (I wish I remembered her name!) who was equally wonderful. Honestly, every single person we interacted with was fantastic. And the food? Absolutely outstanding. Fresh, flavorful, and prepared to perfection. Watching Chad shuck oysters right in front of you was both entertaining and impressive — and those oysters were phenomenal. If you’re visiting New Orleans, don’t miss Mr. Ed’s on Bienville Street. Great food, great people, and an atmosphere that keeps you coming back. We’ll be back without question

  • This is the place to go if you're looking for that combination of dive bar, seafood spot with some of the best crawfish in town in my opinion. We ate here later on in the evening since we got in town a bit later than planned, after we arrived in town and wanted to walk around looking for a spot we decided this was the spot. The drinks were awesome and fair priced, the oysters were fresh and delicious, the crawfish were seasoned to perfection, so good I ordered more since I was in the mood to keep drinking. This is the spot if you are staying anywhere close to get your belly full of delicious food.

  • This place… I swear, I’m on a roll with these reviews. Of the three restaurants my girl and I have tried while here, this is by far and away our favorite. First off, the food. This was my first time trying alligator, as they have gator bites here. I didn’t know what to expect… and my expectations were SHATTERED. They weren’t just tasty… they were divine. Then we had fried catfish w/fries and redfish w/jambalaya… absolute flavor bombs. Just perfect. We’re 3 for 3 for restaurants we’ve tried in New Orleans so far. The hurricane drink I had was also very good. Our server, Brittany, was amazing. Super attentive, efficient and a whole vibe. Whatever y’all paying her… double it. Keep being great, you guys.

  • The staff was very nice. The establishment was clean and it had 2 floors. The food was very good. If i would have eaten there on the first day, then I would have eaten there everyday and tried something different on the menu for the rest of the trip.

  • Party of five, New Years Dau, before the Sugar Bowl, for lunch, the wait was only about 30 minutes. Service was not perfect, the kitchen seemed to be two steps behind, but the waitstaff did the best they could. Food was delicious, what ever got prepared first in the kitchen came out hot and steamy, especially the chargrilled oysters (which were brought to the table last). We will definitely return on a less hectic occasion!

  • Mr. Ed's was pretty good. Didn't like the jambalaya, it had a weird wet texture. Red fish was good. Not sure about the stuffing. It was a bit mushy. Nachos were number 1. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. My sister had gumbo that she loved.
